Man is such an innovative creature. And his needs almost always brings out creativity out of his imaginative mind. Not even the darkness of the night can hinder him from reaching his destination or deny him from doing what he likes. And history is replete with such stories.

During the 19th century when the Civil War was at its peak and the rail system was the fastest form of transportation. Lantern manufacturing also became a booming business. Every town and city spawned tinsmith making lanterns; and great names were established out of the dark period of American history.

John McGregor Adams, a successful salesman at his early years and William Westlake, the inventor of removable globe lantern were some of the popular tandem in the industry. Mr. Adams and Mr. Westlake's companies joined forces to create the Adams and Westlake Company (Adlake). The resulting merging became the most successful railroad lantern company ever.

For almost two centuries now Adlake lanterns still remain as part of the historical pass. The name remains alive and burning. And for the coming centuries more, adlake lamps will continue to shine as an American heritage.
